M83 to join the Killers on tour
File this one under ‘Strange Bedfellows’…

For those of you waiting with bated breath for our Best of 2008 lists (and I know at least 3 of you are), I’ll give you a preview of one of my choices for album of the year – M83’s Saturdays=Youth. It’s like a fantastic window into my childhood in the 80’s, right down to my vaguely Goth-y sister (she wasn’t really Goth, but she sometimes wore a lot of mascara and listened to The Cure and what my dad called ‘Depress Mode’). I’d imagine for generations removed, it may not rate as highly as it does for me & mine. But that’s the beauty of music and opinions, right?
At any rate, the infinitely talented Anthony Gonzalez & crew (in this incarnation it’s Gonzalez on vocals, guitars and keyboards, Loic Maurin on Drums, Pierre-Marie Maulini on bass and guitar and featured album vocalist Morgan Kibby (of LA-based band The Romanovs) on vocals and keyboards.) will be hitting the interstates this January & February with Nevadans The Killers.
Now I know what you might be thinking because I thought it too – really? It sort of strikes me as being as mismatched as Katy Perry opening for Radiohead, but then again, I’ve only heard one song off of Day & Age so maybe there’s a connection I’m missing. At any rate, it’s guaranteed to get the band some exposure it may not have had otherwise, and I’ll always be in favor of that.

Ha! Depress Mode! I like it!
I also like M83.
Haha. That same sister read this and subsequently sent me an email as she clearly feels she was not ‘vaguely goth-y’. Though I have since consulted with my mother who confirms the excessive mascara and tendency to wear black clothing.
