Holiday Music

I am not a fan of Xmas music. For one thing, it’s piped into every single store for at least 45 days straight. I worked at Starbucks about 10 years ago, and it was truly torturous (I’m referring to the music, but working there was pretty bad at times as well). In fact, after I was sure my store manager wouldn’t be coming back in for the night (I always closed), I’d turn off our MP3/Muzak machine and plug in my discman so I could hear something that didn’t make me want to kill either the customers or myself.
That said, I do find myself enjoying some of the somewhat subversive ‘Xmas’ music that some indie bands tend to release around this time of year. Like last year’s ‘We’re All Going To Die’ by Malcolm Middleton. That certainly couldn’t be mistaken for a traditional Xmas song, could it?
Here are a few offerings from this year’s batch of ‘holiday’ tunes:
The Joy Formidable – My Beerdrunk Soul is Sadder Than a Hundred Dead Christmas Trees
Not a Xmas song per se, but one of BRMC’s holiday freebies:
BRMC – A Fine Way To Lose (Drunken Demo)
And from last year:
Malcolm Middleton – We’re All Going To Die (Sportsday Megaphone Remix)
