I suppose if I had a choice of losing Zooey to anyone, Ben Gibbard would be at the top of the list. He’s just so incredibly, intensely, amazingly sincere in every way that it’s impossible for me to begrudge him winning the heart of my favorite actress/singer. No I didn’t make this up (though maybe someone else did). Pitchfork is reporting that Ben & Zooey are engaged. Yes engaged. I’ll give you a few moments to overcome your indiegasm.

I notice the people who are the most impressed about this are men. Without argument, Zooey is a beautiful girl, with those huge blue eyes and a complexion to die for. But come on! She’s not that great a singer or an actress! I saw her as Trillian in Hitchhikers Guide, and I was so not impressed.
Okay, I’m going to give you the acting part because it’s SO true. Hitchhikers was such a disappointment on the whole, though I’m not sure it could have ever been satisfactorily adapted from the book. She wasn’t really the only ‘lost’ soul in that movie, was she? I mean, Mos Def as Ford Prefect? Just wrong. Still, I think Zooey is a great singer. Much more so than people give her credit for.
You’re totally right though. I will fully admit to being a sucker for a girl with pretty eyes!
