TAGT Tour
The Asteroids Galaxy Tour only formed a year ago. Considering the fact that they’ve already had a wildly successful track in an iPod commercial, been praised by the likes of Nylon, URB & USA Today (and me – let’s not forget that) and had no less than 3 of their songs used in an episode of ‘Gossip Girl’, it’s difficult not to be impressed. All of this with nothing but a 4-track EP to back them up.
Further highlighting the band’s solid work ethic is the recent announcement that they will be delivering their first full-length on April 21st. The album, titled Fruit, will include the previously released singles ‘Around the Bend’ (from the iPod commercial) and ‘The Sun Ain’t Shining No More’, as well as a slew of new tunes. They’ll also be returning to the states in support of said debut, beginning with several shows at this year’s SXSW festival.
I don’t think these 2 are necessarily breaking a lot of new musical ground, but they are a lot of fun. What with all the remixes and electro-inspired tracks that have piled up inside my inbox, these guys were a refreshing change of pace. Hey, if you are going to mine the past, 60s soul and 70s funk aren’t such bad starting points. Especially when it’s this lively and lighthearted. I’m interested in hearing what else they have up their sleeve.
