New Presets video & expanded LP
The Presets – another band I expected little from after their smashing debut, then they go and smash that with their sophomore record (‘Girl and the Sea’ will always hold a special place in my heart, though). Didn’t anyone tell them about the Sophomore Slump? Don’t they know the 2nd record is supposed to be overblown and pretentious? I guess it could be that they just enjoy making music that people love to listen & dance to instead of focusing on how they might be perceived by their peers, the crazy bastards!
One year, several hit singles and a massive sweep at the ARIA’s later, we find the duo still releasing material & touring behind the monster that is Apocalypso. The video above for ‘If I Know You’ was recently debuted on Pitchfork.TV (even if you find yourself reluctant to visit Pitchfork these days, the dot TV division is well worth your time). The short is directed by Eva Husson, who also directed M83’s wonderful ‘Kim & Jessie’. It’s a bit like Billy Elliot set in L.A., except this time Billy finds a few friends to join him on his dancing odyssey.
The band are returning stateside for a series of dates with equally-wonderful The Golden Filter, capped off with a performance at this year’s Coachella Festival. The word on the street is this will be their only 2009 US dates, so you’d better catch them while you can!
