Depeche Mode – Wrong

I am a *huge* Depeche Mode fan. My sister used to be absolutely crazy for Depeche Mode when I was a kid, so much so that my dad would complain about her constantly playing ‘Depress Mode’. Although later on we’d both discover he secretly liked DM when I found a Greatest Hits CD in his truck. It all rubbed off on me, apparently, because I can’t resist DM, either.
Below is the video for their new single, ‘Wrong’, released yesterday. It’s also the first single from their new record, Sounds of the Universe, coming April 21st. The vid is directed by Patrick Daughters, who is probably best known for his video for Feist’s ‘1,2,3,4′.
Both are classic DM – a dark, haunting atmosphere coupled with eerie synths & Dave Gahan’s plaintive vocals. The video itself is a twisted experience, only revealing its true meaning in the last moments. The band don’t feature heavily, and only make a brief appearance walking down the street while glancing knowingly at the unwitting driver.
Since I’d be nuts to post the new single, I thought I’d toss an oldie but a goodie your way. This is off of 1986’s Black Celebration, the album that really solidified the sound that most people likely associate with the band. It’s ‘But Not Tonight’, and I think a prefect meld of the earlier, lighter DM with the later, darker stuff.
