La Roux – In For The Kill

Written By: Sean on February 26, 2009 4 Comments

This isn’t brand, brand new, but I’m still playing catch-up here. La Roux recently released a video for their new single, ‘In For The Kill’. Yes, I said their. Even though the popular perception is this is a one-woman show, La Roux a.k.a. Elly Jackson & Ben Langmaid are a duo. Ben doesn’t show up for live performances, but Elly has been quoted as saying it is “very much a half and half sharing situation…not like a singer/producer…”. Ben probably feels he can’t compete with her hair, and who could blame him. I haven’t seen a ‘do this fabulous since Mike Score!

This video is supposed to depict Elly ‘driving through the future’, although as with most La Roux tracks we’ve heard so far, it feels more like she’s driving into our glorious late 70s/early 80s synthesizer past. Still, something about that sound will always be ‘futuristic’, so it works.

If you head over to the official website, they’re offering up free downloads of both ‘Quicksand’ and a demo for ‘Fascination’ in exchange for your email. And here’s the latest and greatest take on the track by another duo, Brazil’s The Twelves.

The music video reminds me of Kavinsky.

I dunno Rebecca, Kavinsky wasn’t exactly an original himself, was he? Just borrowed heavily from the 80s as well, albeit the slicker side. I really like her voice personally, but I could see where she could have a tendency to annoy in long stretches.
