New Trek Trailer
Having seen Watchmen this weekend, I was of course greeted with the new trailer for JJ Abrams’ Star Trek. Being the geeky fella I am, I nearly pissed myself in nerdy glee. Those 2 minutes honestly gave me more goosebumps than all 163 minutes of Watchmen (more on that later).
First off, I’d recommend you watch the HD version of the trailer above, as it is well worth it. In fact, I’d go so far as to say you should experience it for the first time on the big screen, but I know most people don’t pay to see movies just to see the trailers. I’m just weird like that.
Judging this solely as a trailer, I have to say it succeeds in just about every way. In fact, this strikes such a proper balance between the nerds and the mainstream that I think they should have started out with this one in the first place. To me, minus some of the nomenclature that’s so very clearly Trek (Starfleet, James T Kirk, etc.) there’s nothing obviously or blatantly Trek present. We nerds may know those are pesky Romulans causing all this trouble, but there’s no mention of that. Nothing about time travel or phasers or any other such technobabble to be found. Whereas I heard a few snickers in the theatre during the last Trek trailer, everyone in my showing of Watchmen seemed to be pretty interested after seeing this one (of course, I’m sure there was a high ratio of nerds out given what I was watching).
I’m curious what you non-Star Trek fans out there think – Does this trailer make you want to see more or does it seem too same-old same-old?

seriously tho, i was disappointed by this trailer – it made me want to see the film less. this is due to the bar room brawl scene and what appears to be Kirk non-Starfleet, going to school, serving in a non-Captain position, etc. Snoozeville. I’ll be waiting for the DVD methinks.
Interesting. See, this is what I was looking for – honest, straightforward reactions from the non-biased. I’m still seeing it opening night, of course. :)
