A Camp
And Nettwerk snags yet another brilliant outfit for their already envy-inducing roster…

A Camp are Nina Persson (frontwoman to The Cardigans, as if I even had to tell you), her husband Nathan Larson (yes ladies & gents, she’s spoken for – and by a former member of Shudder To Think, no less) and Niclas Frisk (of Atomic Swing). Together, they create happy, shiny indiepop layered with orchestral arrangements and anchored by Nina’s gorgeous vocals.
The music reminds me of The Cardigans in some respects, but I suppose that’s inevitable with Nina on lead. I’d say it’s less rock than her other band, with touches of 70s folk & pop. Trumpets, triangles and piano dominate several tracks, while songs like ‘Here Are Many Wild Animals’ (apparently inspired by an African safari) turn up the volume and reach back into 60s Spector-produced pop. ‘Stronger Than Jesus’ opens with guitar that’s reminiscent of (if not a tip of the hat to) Bowie’s ‘All The Young Dudes’, and elements of Glam rock are definitely present throughout the album.
The band will be making their US debut in NYC (where else?) and the new record, Colonia, will be arriving on store shelves on April 28th. It’s been shuffling around the UK and Sweden for a while now, but now that they’ve been vetted we get a shot :) Tourdates and a live performance of ‘Stronger Than Jesus’ from the Swedish Grammys below.
