Metric – Gimme Sympathy
Metric have revealed the first video from their upcoming 4th album, Fantasies. ‘Gimme Sympathy’ is what I’d classify as a classic Metric tune, if there is such a thing. It’s glossy, feel-good indiepop that won’t necessarily blow your mind but will thoroughly entertain and is sure to cause unconscious toe-tapping. And what’s not to enjoy about Emily Haines posing the age old ‘Beatles or Stones’ question? Since she ultimately asks for ‘Here Comes The Sun’, I’m going to assume she’s a Fab Four girl.
The video itself is a lot of fun to watch, as it’s a split-screen between the behind-the-scenes camera work as well as the finished product itself. Since it’s all done in a single shot, it’s interesting to watch as the various band members frantically switch positions & costumes to ensure they’ll be in the right spot when the camera comes back around to them.
If you like what you hear, you can pre-order the new record at the band’s website here. Fantasies will be released on Last Gang Records in Canada and the UK, while the band will be self-releasing the album here in the states. Digital copies will become available on March 31st (next Tuesday) and physical copies will be available on April 14th. If you do pre-order, you’ll be treated to a free download of ‘Help, I’m Alive’, ‘Gimme Sympathy (Acoustic Version)’ as well as a cover of Pink Floyd’s ‘Nobody Home’. All physical copies ordered thru the band’s website will be Deluxe versions that will not be sold in stores.
And the band have been kind enough to offer the entire album for streaming in the widget below, so you can try before you buy.
