Ibiza Rocks
If you’re like me, when you heard the word ‘Ibiza’ your mind instantly goes to the following image: Wealthy folks on holiday, getting wasted and naked on the most beautiful beach you’ve ever seen, all whilst listening to Paul Oakenfold & Tiesto. Ya know, that whole imagery Damon Albarn conjured up when he wrote ‘Boys & Girls’ (except, obviously, not in Greece). That, or those Ultimate Dance compilations you always see at the record store but never end up being worth the money.

Regardless of the specifics, I’m sure most people don’t associate Ibiza with The Kooks. Or Dizzee Rascal. Or Vampire Weekend. That’s where Ibiza Rocks comes in. They’ve spent the last 5 years trying to bring a slightly more diverse lineup of acts to the Spanish isle. This year, they’ve commandeered an entire hotel, where guests can get a poolside seat to a massive lineup of bands & DJs all summer long.
Clearly, there are quite a few holes in the lineup so far, but it is still March, after all. This won’t be kicking off until the end of June, so they have plenty of time to make this even more outstanding. Tickets are actually quite reasonably priced, considering what some festival tickets are going for these days. Let’s face it – by the time you actually count up how many bands you end up seeing at something like Coachella, you realize you paid a decent chunk of change for the privilege.
Tickets will be available to buy from 9am Monday 30 March at www.ibizarocks.com, priced £28.50 – £37.50 plus booking fee. Ibiza Rocks Hotel prices from £19 per person per night based on 3 sharing a Standard Studio including a gig ticket for the Opening Party on 16 June. It also includes admission to Reclaim The Dancefloor, a gig afterparty held at Eden. Not bad at all! Plus, there’ll be plenty of events going on all over the island beyond those specifically mentioned here, clearly.
Of course, if you’re in the states you’re going to have to work out how you’re getting over there, but if you’re already in Europe then it seems like a bargain to me. I’d do it in a heartbeat!
