Fires of Rome

I know very little about Fires of Rome, other than I initially thought they were called Fires of Frome, and I was trying to determine if it was a celebration of Edith Wharton or enthusiasm for British townships. Oh, but it was neither, of course! They’re actually from NYC and recently released an album titled You Kingdom You. The music feels like a mix of We Are Wolves and Semi Precious Weapons, while the video has the same kind of theatricality you’d expect from Fischerspooner. Of course, that’s only going by the one tune.

The band are playing 2 east coast dates in May, though I’m sure there are more TBA. They’ve already received the remix treatment from M83, who definitely tweaks the song in an unexpected way. Maybe it’s because I’m still swooning over that amazing Polly/TGF collab, but the remix doesn’t amaze me. It feels more like incidental music tacked onto the shouty vocals of the original than a remix, so for me it’s too incongruous to get into (which is odd since I’m normally a fan of his remixes). I’d definitely recommend listening to the original and checking out the video, though.
