Bat For Lashes

Gorgeous video for a gorgeous song. I wasn’t what you’d call ‘super into’ Bat For Lashes first album. It was good, I liked it and certainly listened to it, but I suppose I filed it under Q for Quirky and never really expected much more from Natasha Kahn. Or if I did expect something, I thought it would be similarly quirky but not something that would imprint on me in any significant way. Am I making any sense? Good for the moment, but definitely temporary.
This new album though…it’s just mesmerizing. There’s no casual listening here. You’re just engulfed in images and emotions. And oddly enough, there’s something very 80s in this. Not that she’s retro-mining or aping other singers or anything so obvious as that, it just recreates certain feelings I have about the past. Though there are times where I’m reminded of Annie Lennox, and that’s never a bad thing (as long as we’re talking about Eurythmics-era Lennox, and not solo-era Lennox). I’m very wrapped up in it right now, and I don’t see that subsiding any time soon. And that’s not even addressing any of the alternate identity/concept album stuff!
I’m not sure what the song has to do with Daniel LaRusso other than using his first name, but Natasha appears topless on the single’s cover with a Ralph Maccio tattoo on her back. So I guess it’s all connected somehow? Who cares, song’s great.

I’ve heard clips off the new album and must confess I, thus far, remain unconvinced. I’ll need to hear it play out full length I think.
Just wanted to say I really liked the site. You have really put a lot of time into your posts and it is just great!
