2nd Attention

Sometimes I play a sort of fantasy football in my head, but instead of dream sports teams, I imagine what it would be like if some of my favorite musicians got together and formed some kind of undefeatable supergroup. Of course, in reality supergroups often…well, suck. Let’s be honest. Still, I wonder what it would be like if certain musicians collaborated on a project – like if Stuart Murdoch got together with Simian Mobile Disco and formed some kind of crazy folktronica side project. Would it be awesome, or horrifying? We may never know.

This next musician is not a supergroup. In fact, he’s not a group, just a him. He is called 2nd Attention, but based on the songs he’s sent along to me, he might approximate what it would be like to hear Chris Corner join a band with Tom Vek. I hate to make comparisons right out of the gate, and that’s not going to do him any justice really, it’s just what I immediately thought of when I heard his single ‘Marching Band’. He has that sort of cigarettes-soaked voice with big, crunchy guitars and programed beats. There’s even something of a Bright Eyes circa 2002 lo-fi opening with the sounds of a recorder clearly audible.

The fella behind 2nd Attention (I don’t know his name just yet) has apparently been making music since he was 5. He joined a signed indie band (again, unspecified), left and decided he wanted to twiddle knobs and play with a Korg. He’s self-releasing this EP, and only asks for £1 + postage in return. Seems like a win-win scenario, to me. If you like what you hear, by all means contact him at info@2ndattention.com and give the guy a little spreadin’ around money. At the very least, do it so he can keep making catchy tunes like this one.
