Dead Leaf Echo

I know nothing about Dead Leaf Echo. I gleaned the basics from their myspace page – they’re from NYC, they’re a foursome, they’ve collaborated with John Fryer (Depeche Mode, Cocteau Twins, Gravity Kills, Nine Inch Nails) & Ulrich Schnauss (A Shoreline Dream, Mojave 3, Longview) and they’ve just self-released their new album, Truth.
Do I wish I’d known about Dead Leaf Echo? Yes, yes and yes. Anyone who loves the sounds of 4AD (Blonde Redhead, Stereolab, Lush) or misses the days of Slowdive & Ride or thinks that new My Bloody Valentine record just can’t come fast enough, should look no further than this outfit to tide them over. I put on new single ‘Act of Truth’, closed my eyes and was immediately transported to the late eighties/early nineties. If you told me this was simply a lost song from those shoegaze days, I’d totally have bought it. Without question that’s partly owed to the production collaboration with Fryer & Schnauss, but these 4 clearly have a lot of talent between them. Are they mining the past? Unquestionably. But when it sounds this good and inspires me to pull out Nowhere, I don’t think it’s such a bad thing.
Buy Truth here.
