How a 7 inch is made

I find this totally fascinating. Something magical about vinyl, always will be. Of course, it’s also easy to see the argument for digital given the man hours and equipment needed for vinyl pressing. Still, the tangibility of the whole process appeals to me. I like having something to hold, to slip out of the case, putting a needle down. It demands your focus and attention in a way digital never can. I think Matthew over at Song, By Toad once said that putting a record on was something of a spiritual experience, like worshiping at the altar of music. There might just be something to it.

I think maybe small bands miss out on the minor adventure that was heading off to Porky’s in Portland Place, 1/4″ tape in tow & watching him master it for you. He’d put what extras you wanted, as well as ‘Porky Prime Cut’, of course, and you could ask him to get the volume up nice n high if it was a suitably short track.
Mind you, 500 was a typical minimum pressing, and quite an expense.
