Bad Flirt

I am usually 2 months behind on my email at any given time. This is caused by two things – 1)I receive far more emails in a day than I could possibly answer and by necessity I prioritize emails from people I know personally and that could conceivably cause me bodily harm should I take 2 months to answer them and 2)my brain works in slow and mysterious ways which I can’t explain. I’d go into more detail but, ya know, slow and mysterious.

Bad Flirt are a pop outfit from Montreal that were sent my way some time ago but I’ve only recently had time to absorb. From what I’ve heard of them so far, I’d say they make music in the spirit of Lush, Elastica and the poppier side of Veruca Salt*. Lots of sugar, and I certainly think it would be easy enough to OD if taken in higher doses, but thoroughly enjoyable and unapologetically upbeat. If I was down and needed the musical equivalent of Jolt Cola, I wouldn’t think twice about turning to Bad Flirt.

The band have recently released their first album, Virgin Talk, but so far it is only available in Canada, so if you’re looking to pick up a copy you’re going to pay ‘import’ prices ($32! Yikes). Amazon has a few used available in a more reasonable price range, though. They’ve offered up a single titled ‘Mad Mad Madeleine World’ for your enjoyment. Not only is it a nice slice of pop goodness, it references my favorite coffee/tea pastry!

*Speaking of Vercua Salt, how weird is it that Nina and Louise are now 41 and 42, respectively? I’m getting old.

Oh, I thought this post was about me due to the subject line.

I refuse to believe that this is true.

I was on a big Veruca Salt kick a month or so ago. Listening to American Thighs on repeat and lamenting that there weren’t many bands making that kind of music still around. So this is a nice find…
