Jarvis
I can’t think of anyone that doesn’t love Jarvis Cocker. Oh, maybe you aren’t a Pulp fan (though I can’t imagine why) or you haven’t fallen over yourself for his solo record (again, can’t imagine why), but deep down we all seem to have an appreciation for the coolest cat in the room. And Jarvis is, hands down, always the coolest cat in the room.

The king of cool is preparing his second album with mega-producer Steve Albini, which is sure to raise an eyebrow or two. Not that it’s the craziest pairing in the world, but it’s certainly not a pairing I would have predicted. To be fair, Albini has morphed his client list a great deal in the last 4 years, moving beyond the typical post-Grunge/Punk outfits and into some interesting genre choices (Electrelane, Scout Niblett, Mono).
The new album is titled Further Complications and is due out May 18th. Jarvis is making the single ‘Angela’ available for free download on his website, though it’s been floating around in live form for about a year now. It’s a bit 60s garage-y, so it’s an interesting evolution from his first solo record. Of course, the real question is will we ever hear another Pulp record!?

Six years ago on Valentines Day, I was living in London and my friends and I made plans to meet at a nice restaurant. It was really rainy out and I was running late, per usual. On my way to meet them, a man knocked me over on the street and I fell down. The man was so tall that he simply didn’t see me. These giant arms come reaching to pick me up, and I hear a voice saying “I’m so sorry darlin”. When I look up, it’s Jarvis Cocker and my confusion from falling turns into surprise to see one of my long time music idols coming face to face with me. He could tell by the look in my eyes that I recognized him and I barely got out an “oh it’s you” before he said, “ok I gotta go” and he peaced out. I just stood there stunned. Oh Jarvis….where did you go?
and as always, your stories are cooler than my stories.
