The renewals/cancellations have been officially announced for the network lineups this Fall. I can’t say I’m totally surprised by most of these, but I’m pretty gutted over a few of these decisions:

TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES
Status: Canceled

This one kills me. Especially after the game-changing season 2 finale. I know it’s an expensive show, what with cybernetic ladies getting beaten up and tossed around, and shapeshifting 90s alt rock singers, but come on. Surely there was a way to cut costs without losing this wonderful show? If this was on USA or SciFi (or is it SyFy?) they’d say it was a hit.

DOLLHOUSE
Status: Renewed for 13 episodes

I’d feel better about this one if it weren’t for TSCC getting the axe. I know it must be a far less expensive show to produce, and it did improve toward the end, but I still can’t muster up much enthusiasm for Eliza Dushku’s character. Everything else is okay, but just okay. Of course, it often takes a few seasons for a show to hit its stride (this was true of Buffy as well as Star Trek The Next Generation). We’ll see what happens.

FRINGE
Status: Renewed

This was pretty much a sure thing, but I was still glad to hear it. John Noble is worth the price of admission alone, but Joshua Jackson is surprisingly good (especially since all I’d ever seen of him was in Dawson’s Creek). Anna Torv’s character really warmed up as well, and how great was Leonard Nimoy in the finale?

CHUCK
Staus: Renewed for 13 episodes

I’m really happy that Chuck’s been renewed. It’s silly and over the top, but I like it. I hear they’ve been hit with a budget cut by the network, but hopefully we won’t lose any major characters. As far as I’m concerned, they could probably ditch the Buy More at this point, as it’s getting harder and harder to accept that no one would notice all his absences. Plus, I think he quit in the season finale.

HEROES
Status: Renewed

Blech. I loved the first season of Heroes, but it’s gone so far downhill ever since. I can’t tell if the writers have any direction at all, or if they just get together to smoke some peyote. How this gets renewed is beyond me. They have to have lost at least 1/2 their audience by now. At least we know that Zach Quinto has a future ahead of him outside the show now that Star Trek is out.

Elsewhere…

Several remakes bit the dust, with Eleventh Hour, Worst Day and Kath & Kim canceled. Smallville will continue to stink up the CW for some reason, while the various Law & Order & CSI shows sadly remain in production, as do Ghost Whisperer & Medium (barf).

Oh, and I’m still depressed over Pushing Daisies being nixed, but I hear they’re going to make a movie (possibly direct-to-dvd) where Ned battles 1,000 zombies. Nice.

I gave up on Heroes a couple of episodes into season 3. Pretty much very character annoys me.

Fringe is also annoying – oh, an excentric genius (with an English accent!) and his son who’ll only refer to him by his first name because of their strained relationship, and the beautiful female agent with whom they solve strange cases.

No one has an English accent on Fringe, though. John Noble is Australian, but he does an American accent for the show.

And I know a lot of elements have been done elsewhere (X-Files, Night Stalker, etc.) but it’s all strangely satisfying.

And while I think Anna Torv is pretty, she’s certainly not a typical beauty. I don’t think she comes off as a cliche.

Lol, what? That’s supposed to be an American accent?

And it looks like Medium got cancelled after all, so a little victory?

Yeah, but I guess Medium is probably going to be picked up by CBS. So boo all over again.

I dunno, he never sounds particularly English to me, more of a New England upper crust kind of thing. He really has fun with the role though.

Yeah, but at least it got canned to give space to shows with smaller but more devoted fans.

    what’s wrong with medium?!

Oh Elhaam, what isn’t wrong with Medium? ;)

It features my least favorite Arquette (yes, I even like David better) for one, and is basically Murder She Wrote but with ghosts. I don’t really know how it’s any different from Ghost Whisperer, other than Jennifer Love Hewitt. Just not my thing, at all.

You didn’t love her in True Romance? That’s one of my favorite movies. Plus, Medium is based on the life of a real woman in Phoenix, with three girls who are also starting to show signs they are mediums and her husband really is a rocket scientist. I haven’t seen those other two shows you mentioned, but I love Medium, so a big hurrah from me that it’s coming back.

Nah, not really. Something about her just rubs me the wrong way. She makes me feel ishy.

Figures the ‘medium’ is from Arizona, we have a lot of crazies out here! :) I just don’t buy into that stuff, so it doesn’t appeal to me.
