Spinnerette
I first mentioned Brody Dalle’s new diggs back in February. Seems she’s been busy ever since, because a Spinnerette full-length is now on the horizon. The self-titled album will arrive on June 23rd, but you can hear one of the brand-new tracks on Myspace as of today, called ‘Babtized By Fire’. And by the way, yes, that is the album cover above. I’m sure that will guarantee a few sales alone!
‘Babtized By Fire’ is a bit lighter than ‘Ghetto Love’ – given the fact that Spinnerette so reminds me of 90s alternarock, you might say that ‘Ghetto Love’ is analogous to ‘Push It’ while ‘Babtized By Fire’ is more in line with ‘When I Grow Up’. Same ultimate destination but 2 totally different approaches. Or if you want to go a more modern route, you could say that ‘Ghetto Love’ is ‘Date With The Night’ and ‘Babtized By Fire’ is ‘Heads Will Roll’.
Eh, but enough with comparisons. I think this stuff is fun enough on its own merits without having to tie it into anything or anyone else. Maybe it’s the teenager in me that’s giving it a free pass, but I really like what I’ve heard so far. Guilty Pleasure? Maybe. Or perhaps just a regular old pleasure.
