Santigold on tour

By now, most of you have probably heard that SantOgold was recently forced to change her stage name to SantIgold. This was due to a dispute with a mail-order jewelery buisness named Santo Gold, who also happened to finance a bad science fiction movie about alien wrestlers coming to Earth to eat their opponents. If only I were making this up. The movie even features a character named Santo Gold, a wrestler, who breaks into song before his match and just happens to sing about the Santo Gold jewelery line.

Apparently, a judge felt this fella had a better claim on the Santogold name, so Santi White was forced to change a letter. I’m a little puzzled as to why this obviously unknown individual felt a hip-hop/pop/indie artist using the same name damaged his business (other than the likelihood that far more people know who he is due to the suit than ever would have before), but such is life. I wonder if the original copies of her debut (also named Santogold) will somehow turn into collector’s items?

The Artist Formerly Known As Santogold has embarked on a fairly extensive tour that will wrap up at the end of June. Then maybe she’ll get to work on album #2 (hint, hint Miss White).
