Deleted Scenes
I’m a newbie to Deleted Scenes, though I gather they’ve earned themselves a decent amount of praise from not only the blogverse, but respectable folks like NPR, The Washington Post, The Onion, etc. I don’t bring those sources up to validate anything or to fill space, only to point out that clearly these guys have made the rounds and like a deaf dope I just missed it.
I’m happy to have been turned on to them now, though, thanks to the hardworking Josh Bloom over at Fanatic Promotion. I’ve only heard this one song, ‘Fake IDs’, but I’m eager to hear more based on it. I certainly hear a 90s alternative ethic here, something that immediately takes me back to sophomore year (again) when I was discovering so many different musical milestones. The lead singer reminds me a bit of a less controlled Ben Bridwell from Band of Horses, which is a complimentary comparison in my book. The music itself is that triumphant, uplifting stuff that indie outfits like this seem to nail with ease. I instantly felt a need to stick it on a mixtape. People still make those, right?
