Having just completed several shows with fellow LA residents She Wants Revenge (interesting pairing, eh?), Great Northern are heading across the pond to headline several shows in July. And since they just had a song featured in Grey’s Anatomy, I’d imagine they’ll see a resurgence in interest in Remind Me Where The Light Is. That seems to be the big break for most any band these days, with radio on the slow decline and MTV having given up on music (except to soundtrack its various teen dramas).

TOUR DATES:
7/07 @ Barfly, London, England
7/08 @ Water Rats, London, England
7/09 @ Korova (Club Evol), Liverpool, England
7/10 @ Koko (Club NME), London, England

feverray-01-wide

The super kooky but always amazing Karin Dreijer Andersson a.k.a. Fever Ray will be embarking on a brief (very brief) US tour starting in September. She’s also releasing her 3rd single from her self-titled debut, ‘Triangle Walks’, on June 23rd. The video for the trippy outing was debuted on Stereogum yesterday, and the Stereogum boys were nice enough to make it embeddable.

For some reason, this song reminds me of something that might have been on the soundtrack to an 80s movie where a rookie detective has to travel to Japan to investigate a murder but learns all about Japanese culture along the way and somehow learns a valuable lesson about the world. Yeah, I’ve overthought that, but it’s the way my brain works (or doesn’t work, take your pick).

Triangle Walks Track List:
1 Triangle Walks
2 Triangle Walks (Ben Hoo’s Still Frame)
3 Triangle Walks (Spektre Vocal Mix)
4 Triangle Walks (Tora Vinter remix)
5 Triangle Walks (Allez – Allez remix)
6 Triangle Walks (Tiga’s 1-2-3-4 remix)
7 Triangle Walks (James Rutledge remix)
8 Triangle Walks (Tiga’s 1-2-3-4 remix instrumental)

maccabees

The spectacular Maccabees are back with a new album, Wall of Arms, and will be making 2 exclusive dates in New York before heading back to the UK to play 5 massive festival dates. Haven’t heard anything off this one yet, but if it’s half as good as their first I think we’ll be right as rain.

siren2009-slice1

The Village Voice’s Siren Music Festival has just announced several last minute additions to Saturday’s festivities, including BIYL-recommended bands A Place To Bury Strangers & Tiny Masters of Today. Previously announced headliners include Built to Spill, Spank Rock, The Raveonettes & Frightened Rabbit. I know you New Yorkers get pretty indifferent to this kind of thing, given every band stops over in your city, but it sounds worth checking out. At least go for the sake of those of us who can’t!

thejoyformidable

One of my favorite discoveries from last year, The Joy Formidable, have announced several summer tour dates including festival appearances at Reading & Leeds, while in October they’ll be sharing a tour slot with the Editors & Passion Pit. Their debut, A Balloon Called Moaning is still available here.

July.
4th Hops Farm, Kent.
10th Oxegen, Dublin.
11th Wakestock, Abersoch.
17th Pohoda, Slovakia.

pains

I’ve yet to meet anyone who doesn’t love The Pains of Being Pure at Heart. Maybe such a person exists, but they aren’t invited to my summer BBQ. Plus, they’re actually coming to Arizona! Tucson, admittedly, but it’s better than nothin’.

Yet another one of Sweden’s gifts to the world, Loney Dear will be coming back our way come September. He’ll be joined by Asobi Seksu, a band I always mean to check out but never seem to get around to. Need to correct that! But it’s easy to get a bit overwhelmed at the amount of music out there. Who could ever hope to listen to all of it? Guess that’s what us blog folk are for, yeah?
