The Legends

It seems strangely appropriate and unsurprising that The Legends are labelmates with The Mary Onettes on Labrador Records. They sound like kindred spirits to me, though where The Mary Onettes 80s fixation focuses on The Cure & New Order, The Legends are gazing lovingly at Ride & The Jesus And Mary Chain (and clearly love Phil Spector and his Wall of Sound, too). And like their forbears, they’ve got an obvious talent for what I’d call gorgeous noise.

The band is primarily the brainchild of Johan Angergård, but his new record titled Over And Over (not to be confused with the Hot Chip track of the same name) also features appearances by several other Swedes of note, including members of Pallers, Club 8 and yes, the aforementioned Mary Onettes. I only have this one song to go on, but I’d say lovers of shoegaze, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart or 60s pop will feel right at home.

Over and Over is out now on Labrador/Caroline.

I can’t listen to his new album, it’s too distorted.

I love this song, but haven’t heard the album as a whole
