Amazing Baby – Headdress
Amazing Baby are an interesting bunch. At first I thought they might be Britpop throwbacks after hearing ‘Smoke Bros’, but it seems to me they’re reaching farther back than that (though I still think the opening verse of ‘Dead Light’ sounds like Blur’s ‘Strange News From Another Star’ at a higher tempo). I’ve been listening to the debut – Rewild – over the weekend, and I’ve been hearing bits and bobs of several genres, including glam, prog rock and even a hint of the more melodic side of Black Sabbath. It’s nigh impossible to listen to tracks like ‘Headdress’ or ‘Kankra’ and miss the Bowie/Bolan echoes. It’s all executed rather well, and they clearly have a gift for melody.
This video features naked ladies in the woods, and some of them look like they visited the facepainting booth at the county fair. That or they’re extreme football fans. I’m sure the ZOMG BOOBZ contingent will be very pleased, as the video has breasts in plentiful supply. Maybe the lead singer’s lady love was a Wiccan and that’s how they ‘grew up differently’? Or perhaps it’s a musical tribute to The Wicker Man?
Oh, and I think one of the girls eats a mouse.
