Happy 40th Apollo 11!
Some would call this moon-themed post lazy, and those people would be right! I’ve been suffering from some serious writer’s block lately (many of you might point out that I seem to suffer from writer’s block most all the time, based on what passes for writing ’round these parts), and what better way to fill space with minimal effort than a theme post. Stick up a few mp3s with ‘moon’ in the title, briefly mention a moon-related event, then sit back and watch the hits pour in!
Of course, that’s not entirely fair. The 40th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing does hold some special significance for me. I’ve always been fascinated by space and the stars. When I was a wee lad, my grandfather bought me a telescope, and we’d frequently camp out on his back porch during a full moon or lunar eclipse so that we could get a decent glimpse of the light show. Of course, I’d usually fall asleep before whatever stellar phenomenon took place, but I still made the attempt, every single time. I even convinced my parents to put a huge mural of the moon on the wall that my bed sat against, along with glow-in-the-dark stars on the ceiling.
All that early exposure to the mysteries of outer space undoubtedly led me to being the sci-fi nerd I am today. Surely, the combination of my two passions – music & space – should lead us all to some kind of spiritual nirvana, right?
Oh, who am I kidding? This is a cheap traffic grab. Enjoy.
