Tiny Masters of Today – Two Dead Soldiers
When I first reviewed Tiny Masters of Today on the blog, I mentioned the fact that they weren’t necessarily bringing us anything new. There’s something familiar and obviously very basic about what they’re at, but given their tween status I still managed to find it all rather charming. They say time will tell in these matters, so I wondered what I might think now that I’ve had a few months away from them. Was I being kind simply because of their age? Would the sugary-sweet 2 minute melodies leave me with cavities this far out?
The answer, apparently, is no. I still enjoy this, even if an entire album’s worth might be a bit much (then again, there are a number of bands I enjoy that I can’t take in huge doses). In fact, listening to them now I find myself thinking of them as a sort of CSS meets The Go Team. Simple melodies with catchy, sing-a-long chants and an abundance of energy squeezing out from every side. Give them a few years and I’m sure they’ll move on to more challenging material and darker subject matter, but for now they’re just here to make you smile and tap your feet.
And really, why shouldn’t I take their age into account? Can I really hold them to the same standard as say, Yeah Yeah Yeahs? Wouldn’t that be like giving the new guy at work a 1 month review and slamming him for not having the same proficiency as the guy that’s worked there for 20+ years? So yeah, when I say I like it, I am also saying ‘I like that kids are playing this’.
The video for ‘Two Dead Soldiers’ is appropriately enough, animated. And a fun way to spend a minute and a half.

Ha I mentioned similar things about their age needing to be taken account when I posted about their Siren performance…which was um, not especially wonderful…
Ha ha – the animated robot playing drums is hilarious!
