Alan Singley
It was absolutely no surprise that these folks were from Portland. Putting aside the obvious hint contained in the song’s subject matter (‘Le Rain’), it just feels like a bunch of friends from Portland getting together and making a song on a stormy afternoon (from the look of the above picture, that sums it up pretty well). Despite their notoriously rainy surroundings, bands from Portland seem to have an uncanny knack for making effortlessly endearing sunshine pop. I’m reminded of early Ted Leo and elements of The Shins, though that might not give you a completely accurate picture. And despite it’s sugary-sweet nature it avoids giving me a toothache. So sit back with a hot cup of joe, gaze out your window as the raindrops fall, and put on some Alan Singley and Pants Machine.
