New Mary Onettes!
Ahhh The Mary Onettes! I remember back in 2006 I made myself a mixtape of new music and it included Midnight Juggernauts’ ‘Shadows’, The Whip’s ‘Trash’ and The Mary Onettes’ ‘Lost’. That was an epic mix CD! I played it on the drive into work every day for at least a month. I just couldn’t get enough of it. I also remember being supremely frustrated when I incorporated several of the songs into DJ sets and no one danced. I’m too ahead of the times for my own good, apparently! ;)
At any rate, The Mary Onettes were marked in my head as ones to watch. Sure enough, their debut was a keeper, and now we’re going for round 2. The band’s latest effort, Islands, is out November 3rd on Labrador Records. Lead singer Phillip Ekstrom has said the album is greatly influenced by themes of lost youth, transience and death. I imagine he’s great fun at parties!
