Where The Wild Things Are
I have been waiting anxiously for the release of Where The Wild Things Are ever since I saw the teaser trailer back in March (I’m white, after all). The trailer was made all the better by a cool re-recorded version of ‘Wake Up’ by Arcade Fire. You already know I’m quite fond of movie trailers, of course (which reminds me, I need to get back into Movie Score Monday).
More often than not, the music featured in movie trailers is not actually contained in the movie or its soundtrack. I don’t know if Arcade Fire make it on there, but I now know that the Yeah Yeah Yeahs will be on there. Makes sense, since Karen O has a ’special’ relationship with director Spike Jonze. Not that it’s the only reason, obviously. She seems like a perfect fit for a quirky project like this. And it’s not really the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, although all 3 members are involved. There are also members of The Dead Weather, Deerhunter, Liars, etc. Together, they’ve been dubbed Karen O & The Kids.
No samples from the soundtrack are available yet, but I’m sure we can make some reasonable guesses as to what it sounds like. The soundtrack is out September 29th, and the movie hits theaters October 16th. In the meantime, here’s the original version of ‘Wake Up’. I’d kind of forgotten how great that first Arcade Fire album was until I heard this in the trailer. Neon Bible be damned!
