The Rifles
It’s not hard to swallow the idea that The Rifles were listening to a lot of Jam records as kids. And given the title of their new single, ‘The Great Escape’, a little Blur was likely in the mix as well. Now I know what you’re thinking – ‘Sean, I lived through Britpop. I’ve heard all this before!’. And hey, being a Britpop fan myself, I understand where you’re coming from. But if I’d stood by that attitude, I’d have never discovered the brilliance of that first Libertines album, would I?
Let’s face it – music goes in cycles, and we’ve all heard it before to varying degrees. It’s more about what someone does with it, or rather what they add to it. Or, whether it makes you smile. This music makes me smile. Can I justify promoting it based on a fleeting emotional state? You bet your sweet bippy I can!
Now, I don’t want that argument to diminish how good this single really is. It’s a damn catchy number about satisfaction or the lack thereof, and doing something with your life before ‘the big sleep’. Check it out, I think you’ll enjoy it.
The band’s debut, The Great Escape, is out September 15th on Nettwerk.

Just listened to their version of The Specials' “Rat Race”. A real corker!
They should release it as their next single. Can't get enough of it.
Cheers from Baker University Germany. Hope to see them next year in the Cologne or Düsseldorf area.
