New Joy Formidable!

Over the past year or more I’ve come to think of The Joy Formidable as ‘The little band that could’. They popped up seemingly out of nowhere, blew us away with ‘Austere’, revived dreamy female-fronted guitar pop, and delivered one of the best albums of the year with A Balloon Called Moaning. It’s cliche and far too easy, but it truly is the most joyful music you’re likely to hear. Just take a listen to this new track they’ve offered for download, ‘Greyhounds in the Slips’. It doesn’t drift too far from their existing sound – other than male vocals that I assume belong to Paul Draper, a friend of the band – but as the track ends you’re treated to giggles and laughter as the band break down into hysterics. I can’t think of anything else that so effectively sums up what you feel like after connecting with their music. Pure happiness.
The band look to be touring for the rest of the year, and will be joining stages with Editors, Passion Pit and The Temper Trap – the latter of which Mark will be interviewing later this week, so keep an eye out for that! They will also be releasing a live recording of their show at London’s Garage called First you have to get Mad. The recording should be out some time in November.
Finally, if you love the band as much as I do, the simplest way to support them is to buy their music and their merch. They have some new t-shirts and such available, so visit Big Cartel to browse.

The best live act in the UK in my humble opinion, i have had the Joy excuse the pun of catching them live more times than i care to remember. They are also great people take a lot of time out to chat with the people who come and support them. If ever a band deserve major success it’s these guy’s,i don’t say it lightly catch them live you will be blown away.
Yeah, I remember very early on they sent me a DVD of ‘Austere’ all the way from the UK. I always thought that was such a nice gesture. They’ve always been so kind in their correspondence and very humble.
I remember that buddy remember me you and ceci all blogged them within about three weeks of each other that Austere video rocks
wanna see how good they are live watch the video i shot when they blew White Lies off stage in my hometown http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FnDIiCNdrKw
