Lissy Trullie
One way I can measure how effectively I’m communicating my musical tastes via the blog is by the music people send me in the hopes I’ll like it. A lot of recommendations I receive are incredibly generic, and I’m pretty sure they’re just form emails disguised as personal emails. But sometimes there are people who clearly do read the blog, and have obviously just misread my tastes. These instances cause me great sadness. Well, mild discomfort. At the very least, it makes me feel as though I’ve done something wrong.
This, however, is not one of those times. In this instance, someone pinned me exactly right. Go synergy! Lissy Trullie has a truly magnificent and wacky name, but that’s not what has me interested. She has a Chrissie Hynde quality to her, especially on ‘Boy Boy’. It’s not that she necessarily sounds just like her, she just has that Hynde toughness about her. And I think it’s that quality that raises this above the din of typical New York indie it could conceivably be lost in. That, and an obvious eye for catchy visuals, something she no doubt picked up during her time as a model. Though I’m sure it would come as no surprise she was a model to anyone that glances in her direction.
Everyone knows I’m incredibly picky when it comes to covers, as I find most of them totally crap. In fact, the band being covered here recently covered Joy Divsion, and I absolutely hated it. However, Lissy does a pretty fantastic and sprightly version of Hot Chip’s ‘Ready for the Floor’, which you can watch below. It will also be featured in Diablo Cody’s horromedy, Megan’s Body. Is everyone doing the same as me, and crossing their fingers that movie doesn’t suck?

Thanks, good band, and good cover indeed, but I prefer the Little Boots cover (back in the days when she did good and simple stuff).

Thanks for your blog btw, it’s full of inspiration.
Too bad Little Boots didn’t stick to that sort of thing, I liked her better back then.
