Sonos – Everything In Its Right Place
On its surface, this sounds like a recipe for disaster – a six piece vocal ensemble performing an a cappella version of Radiohead’s masterstroke, ‘Everything In Its Right Place’. There have been so many covers and tributes to Radiohead over the years, and most of them are truly dreadful. Radiohead infuse their output with such quirky individualism that even when a good band attempts a Radiohead cover, it can come off really awkwardly. I mean, Chris Walla is a very talented guy, but hearing him sing ‘Polyethelene’ is not an experience I feel any need to repeat.
But life is full of surprises, isn’t it? While I wouldn’t go as far as Vic in saying Sonos‘ version is better than the original, I would say that it stands on its own as a unique interpretation of the song. And really, that’s all I ask of a cover. Plus, I think their human synthesizer might put the one Calvin Harris made to shame.
