Glasvegas – some thoughts and the new video
You know I was one of the lucky ones to meet Glasvegas before they broke here in the UK. In fact, James Allen gave me a scoop in an interview two days before they signed to Columbia. Recent events have got me thinking about the whole industry in general – is there any thought about artists well being or are they just a commodity?

We all know that it’s a privileged position that Glasvegas as a band are in. They have had a dream ticket the last eighteen months. Feted by all going from playing sweaty clubs of 100 people to stadium tours with U2. It’s been meteoric to say the least, so can it be any wonder that James needed some space. I wonder how it must really feel to be constantly on the road in the studio and a non stop whirl of press calls.

For my part, I hope that James holds it all together and comes up with a new set of songs to match the debut album. For me, even if he never put pen to paper again through his storytelling Glasvegas delivered an iconic album of the 21st century. Anyway, today saw the release of the video for the next US single “It’s My Own Cheating Heart That Makes Me Cry”. In my humble opinion, I love the demo version which they self-released as 7″ limited edition last year.

I for one totally agree with the above comments Mr Thorpe, I also had the privilige of meeting them in February 2008 and again in the summer of 2008, even then you could tell that the pressure was building what with all the various venues they managed to cram into their hectic schedule, despite this they always remained approachable, I remember sharing a glass of wine outside the uncut arena at Latitude with you and Rab!
I find listening to this album is very emotionally cleansing.
If ever anyone laid themselves and thoughts bare on an album James Allen did on this one. Regardless of what you may or not think of them as a band musically, there is no denying he is a lyrical genius
