The Black Heart Procession – Six

How could I have overlooked this in my new release update yesterday? HOW!?! I’ve been a fan of The Black Heart Procession and their special brand of delirious darkness ever since I first heart their album Amore Del Tropico. I remember having no idea what to think upon first listen, as if I’d somehow stumbled onto a secret ceremony that outside ears were never meant to hear. It was exciting and possibly a bit scary, but I knew I wanted more. It was like a fantasy jam session between Nick Cave, The Cramps and Ennio Morricone.

The band have not released any new material since 2006, so this new record is hotly anticipated among the faithful. It is titled Six, which seems appropriate enough given it’s the band’s sixth full-length LP. Lead single ‘Rats’ is a dark and sinister affair, the perfect soundtrack to the scariest horror flick you’ve ever seen (or is that the scariest horror flick you’ve never seen? Hmmm…).

Of course, I did mention Ennio Morricone earlier, and it’s that western twist that transforms this into something else all together. Cowboy zombies anyone?
