Brilliant Treasures

Normally I do these posts as sets of three but time is short tonight.
Apples In Stereo’s Robert Schneider has a new side project called Thee American Revolution, who, in turn, have a track called Power House. It’s sort of a standard Detroit garage rock riff and, to be honest, I didn’t really care for it until 1/3 of the way in when it starts with the “do you really want to know your mind …” part. A song saved by the chorus? Not the first time it’s happened, but here’s another good example of how it’s done:

Here’s the thing about Art Nihilo: on practically every song I listened to I spend the first few seconds thinking “yeah, not bad” and almost absentmindedly kept it playing as I went about coding posts, checking email, and generally engaging the glamorously unglamorous world of music blogging. After a minute or two I’d start unconsciously nodding to the beat, drumming my fingers, then suddenly realize “This track has totally wormed its way right into my head!” It’s insidious, this one. Synch the album to your iPod, put it on as you go about your day to day life, and let it secretly make your day a hell of a lot better.
