First Impressions: Imelda May

Occasionally there are albums I’ll listen to and think “wow, I should tell someone about this!” but don’t necessarily have time or patience to write a full blown review. So I created the First Impressions category, which is, as the name would suggest, my first impressions of an album based on a single listen. Will it hold up on repeated listens? Will it grow on me? Will it fade fast? I’m not concerned about these matters – this category is all about the current moment.

Album: Love Tattoo
Artist: Imelda May
First Impressions: You can sum Imelda May up in one word: sexyashell. Honestly, Love Tattoo is standard rockabilly, albeit extremely well done, but the sexiness inherent in May’s singing elevates the whole affair to something worth your notice. Plus the album is on sale at Amazon for $5 so really there’s no good reason to pass.
