Ok Go Live @ Norwich Waterfront 11/01/10

Ok Go’s UK tour kicked off with a bang at Norwich’s Waterfront last night. Pre-gig, I had the pleasure to interview lead singer Damien Kulash. I got a good vibe about the night ahead, and I was not mistaken!!

The night exploded into life as they bounded onto Stage with a revved up version of “Shooting The Moon” from the New Moon soundtrack. Ok Go are one of the most engaging bands i have seen live for a long while. All the old favourites were in the set including slices of unadulterated pop such as “Here It goes Again”. These songs maybe are not for the music snobs amongst us,but played live in a high octane manner they become infectious
!!

Paper cannons exploded into life at regular intervals providing a spectacular backdrop to the stark concrete building that the waterfront is. The tracks from new album Of The Blue Colour Of The Sky take Ok Go to a new level for me. We were treated to cowbells, tubular bells as well as some of the funkiest bass lines since I saw Prince a couple of years ago.

From the moment Damien introduced “White Knuckles” I was won over to this funky version of Ok Go. To be honest, there is not a bad track on the album. By the time Damien went crowd walking ala Flaming Lips we had forgotten the icy winter weather outside.

The best was saved for last an encore of two new tracks single ‘WTF’ and the amazing ‘Skyscrapers’ and finally ‘Invincible’ – on this form they are certainly approaching it!!! Many thanks to Leya from Charm factory for the listing and once again Shane Allen for the fantastic photos.
