Always Looking Forward
So kit and kittens, are you making it through another week? The day job has me pulling 12 hour days, plus a Saturday, so I’m in need of some excellent mood music. Let’s get rolling with the best in background noise.
Our friends at Lefse Records, clearly not satisfied with already running one of the best labels around, have started up an offshoot imprint Waaga Records. To celebrate they’ve sent out a free sampler album, full of delightful ambient tunes (there’s some non-ambient tracks as well, but I think the ambient ones are the best).

Frankly, I’m suspicious of this sudden resurgence of lo-fi. In the day of affordable laptops that come preloaded with all kinds of musical programs, I’m a bit baffled by the sudden flood of low production quality. It makes me think bands are doing it on purpose, which is contrary to what lo-fi was all about. Bands did it lo-fi because they had to, not because it was hip to do so. Most of them would have given their van for the sound quality available through software today.
Anyway, Surfer Blood, remixed by Baroness drummer Allen Bickle. It’s good.

I think I’ll close out this post with a little jazzy number by Chicago Underground Duo. It’s like an early morning in a club filled with smoke and booze. While that may not be the exact ambience best suited for a day in the office, it’s certainly an intoxicating one. No pun intended.
