Laura Marling – Devil’s Spoke

A newly non-blonde Laura Marling has offered us the first glimpse into her post-Alas material, and I must say I’m pleasantly surprised. Her first album was one of my favorites of 2008, so I’ve been anxious to hear what direction she might take (I even conducted an extremely awkward interview with her here). Of course, she’s playing right into my hand with ‘Devil’s Spoke’, as my favorite moments on her first album were the darker ones. There’s also a new assuredness to her voice that I don’t remember hearing before. It’s all wrapped up in a warm blanket of Celtic Americana that’s pleasing to this blogger’s ears.

“Devil’s Spoke” is the lead single from her second album, and is released on March 15th. The album follows a week later on March 22nd. Laura will be out on tour with another of our favorite singer/songwriters, Alessi’s Ark, in April. Tourdates are as follows:
