Introducing The Mighty Low

Written By: Mark on February 2, 2010 No Comment

You know I get enough new music through my mailbox and inbox, so for me to go chasing a band via Facebook they have to really grab me. Such is the case with The Mighty Low. I stumbled upon them via Alan McGee’s Death Disco lineup for this week. You can take your pick from Wilco through Neil Young or even those famous Canadians The Band for comparisons. I think the short biography I ssked the band to put together for me sums them up pretty well:

From the flat lake lands of southern Ontario comes a sound that is at once both rustic and contemporary, faithfully nostalgic of its pockets of wooded bush, dirt roads, farms and sprawling crop fields. Two brothers, living a continent and an ocean apart, decide to combine their love for music and their homeland’s songwriting traditions, all the while heavily inspired by the classic folk sound of 70s California.Matthew and David formed The Mighty Low in January 2009, joined by talented Swedish drummer, Adam Almqvist, and another folk loving multi-instrumentalist, Stuart Munroe. Together, they have intricately carved out a collection of songs that tells the fascinating story of their lives and a debut E.P release this spring

The Mighty Low play Death Disco @ Notting Hill Art’s Club this Wednesday Feb 3rd. It’s free but get there early as it queues ’round the block!!
