You Me At Six @ Norwich UEA
On Friday 19th March You Me At Six played the penultimate night of their sold out UK tour at Norwich UEA. Almost a year since their last proper UK headline tour and with their second studio album ‘Hold Me Down’ released on 11 January 2010 (reaching #5 in the UK album chart) I was excited to see what YMAS were like live.
First support act We the Kings, from Florida, seemed to have a strong fan base already, with most of the audience singing along to every song. The band received a good response from the crowd, who enjoyed singing the chorus of Secret Valentine.

Set list:
She takes me high
Skyway Avenue
Stay Young
The Middle (Jimmy Eat World cover)
Secret Valentine
Heaven can wait
Check Yes Juliet
Second support band were Dallas-based Forever the Sickest Kids whose lively songs and energetic performance from each of the six members raised the singing volume of the crowd even more, especially with ‘Whoa Oh! (Me vs. Everyone)’ and set the stage for YMAS.

Set List:
She’s a Lady
Believe me, I’m lying
Phone Call
Hey Britney
My worst nightmare
She likes (bittersweet love)
Whoa Oh! (Me vs. Everyone)
YMAS Drummer Dan Flint started the set with an intro to ‘Safer to Hate Her’ which cued the entrance for the rest of the band who came onstage in front of a white drape, covering the back half of the stage which, on the first few notes of the fourth song ‘The Consequence’, dropped down to a visually dramatic display of ramps either side of an elevated platform where the drummer was placed in the middle.
Songs from both their first album ‘Take Off Your Colours’ and recent album ‘Hold Me Down’ had an amazing response with the audience singing along to almost every word and at some points singing back to YMAS.
Throughout the set, singer Josh Franceschi was appreciative and overwhelmed at the audience’s response, thanking them for their continued support.
Travis Clark, the lead singer from We The Kings contributed to the popular song ‘Save it for the bedroom’ showing how well the bands collaborate which enhances the positive atmosphere of their performances.
A short but interesting addition to the set was when Franceschi announced him and Max played beer pong with WTK and lost and his forfeit was to either sing or talk out the American national anthem which, as he started to read it out loud, generated boos from the audience. After the first few lines the anthem changed to “We the Kings is my life, how I love We the Kings they are my favourite band” which stopped the booing and Franceschi quickly got back to the show and later slowed things down with ‘Fireworks’ near the end of their set.
With the audience singing along to the melodic love song ‘Always Attract’ followed by the more energetic songs ‘Save it for the bedroom’ and their most recent single ‘Underdog’ for the encore, YMAS prove that they have a wide repertoire and leave the crowd, including me, wanting to keep listening to their music and looking out for future gigs.
YMAS will possibly be playing at festivals in the summer and with a headline tour in December they will be likely to increase their popularity through the year.

Set List:
Safer to hate her
The truth is a terrible thing
Kiss and Tell
The consequence
Playing the blame game
Trophy eyes
Jealous minds think alike
Liquid confidence
Stay with me
If I were in your shoes
Finders Keepers
Fireworks
Encore:
