Reverend & The Makers Live @ Norwich Waterfront
A real music fest last night at Norwich Waterfront with two excellent local supports in the form of The Great Shakes and the Loyal Few. Both played a part in what turned out to be a great evening. When Reverend and The Makers hit town there is only room for one man to take centre stage – Jon McClure. You either get him or you don’t, there is no in between. Much in the way that Shaun Ryder or Liam Gallagher have that swagger so does McClure. It’s not a Manchester thing for me, it’s a Rock’n'Roll belief, last night he had much to warrant the swagger and attitude.

With guitars, synths and flugal horns on show the whole set was a dance fest. McClure was like a caged animal released at 21.45 pm to prowl and stalk his prey. The demographic of the crowd was an interesting one ranging from kids through to many ex-Mondays types lurking by the bar. To think of them as a poor man’s throwback to the Madchester sound does them a disservice. They are tight, energetic and infinitely more enjoyable than many so-called groundbreaking bands. This is no math rock experience like say a Foals gig and is all the more better for it. There is real soul both in the music and the man, the set was a pretty safe collection of songs from both albums. McClure and the band get a massive thumbs up from me for a great live show.
