Sean Rowe
Sean Rowe is an artist I had never heard of until last week and his new album hit my doormat. Sean Rowe is an artist I am going to be hearing a lot more of now! Magic is an apt title for this longplayer, as it’s dark & melancholic to the very core.

This is right up there with my favorites so far for this year. There is something that moves me about singer/songwriters laying themselves bare. Sean Rowe does this in abundance throughout the album, whether it is in anyway autobiographical I have no idea. This is late night bar music in the best Tom Waits tradition and songwriting of Leonard Cohen proportions, trust me.
I am a little confused having researched a little, my guess is that this was released in the States last year. However the UK release date is set for 25th May on Collar City Records.
Regardless, from the opening lines of “Surprise” I knew that this was destined to be my companion for the working week. The album just gets progressively darker and deeper as you explore it. “Night” will just chill you to the bone and “Jonathan” will take you to some place deep in Rowe’s inner consciousness. If you can progress further than this stand out track without hitting repeat, “Wet” will take you off on another dimension. Lyrically, it blows me away.
All in all there are ten pieces to this jigsaw, quite where they all slot together I am still trying to work out. Maybe I should not analyse things so intensely, somehow you just can’t help but get sucked into this record. Everything is pretty simplistic, yet that only serves to make the whole thing more powerful. I have no hesitation in making this another one of my essential albums you should pick up this year!

Love it. Thats really all there is to say. Oh, and did you mean that the album literally hit your doormat? Because I wish that happened to me. Good find, thanks for posting it.
Jessica, It literally hit my doormat but the PR company had sent it to me via the label to check out. It is one of the bonuses of the world of blogging also one of downsides because you trawl through 30 albums that are poor to find one Sean Rowe glad you have enjoyed it though
