Outside Lands 2010 Lineup

Well alright! Looks like Outside Lands has finally settled on what kind of festival it wants to be. After an amazing start in 2008 with Radiohead as the headliner (you can find my coverage of the festival here), last year’s lineup left me scratching my head a bit. It seemed more 1999 than 2009, with headliners like Incubus, Pearl Jam and Dave Matthews. Oh and Tom Jones. I actually like Tom Jones, but what the hell was he doing there?

This year, however, they seem to have settled on being NoCal’s answer to Coachella. Headliners are Kings of Leon and Furthur (come on, it is San Francisco), with The Strokes, Phoenix and My Morning Jacket bringing up the rear. There’s also Cat Power, The Temper Trap, Empire of the Sun and Chromeo.

Now, I’m not necessarily trying to make the argument that a less diverse festival is a better festival. But you do need some degree of consistency in your lineup, and I think Outside Lands has nailed that this year. They’ve also wisely dropped the 3rd day. I’ve long thought that Coachella should do the same. It seems as though that 3rd day just ends up diluting the strength of what could otherwise be an incredible 2-day fest.

This year’s festival takes place August 14th & 15th. 2-day tickets went on sale this morning, and single day tickets will be available this Sunday, June 6th. You can find them here. 2 day passes run $125.
