Introducing Emily Jane White

About a month ago I stumbled upon Emily Jane White whilst looking at the listings for upcoming gigs, and since then I have been smitten by her dulcet tones & the haunting melodies that abound throughout her beautiful back catalogue. Hailing from Fort Bragg, California, Emily released her debut long-player Dark Undercoat in 2007.

Quite how she is not a household name yet is beyond me, there is something sublime and unique in the simplistic song composition. Sure, you can draw comparisons to the minimalistic style of Cat Power – especially vocally – but that’s no bad thing in my book.

Emily brings her Gothic style of folk to the UK for an eight date mini-tour starting next Thursday at my favourite venue Norwich Art Centre. Also on the bill that night is the wonderful Alessis Ark. I’m so looking forward to catching both of them live. I am guessing Emily will be showcasing tracks from her new album Victorian America, which dropped earlier this year on Milan Records.

Before the gig we will be catching up with Emily to get an insight into her world. In the meantime, check her out and I’m pretty sure you will be both enchanted and enticed into wanting more!!
