Artist Roundup
Just recently it seems my mailbox has been particularly full! Plus, I must admit to having neglected you all this week. I had the opportunity to do the online PR for a charity single so apologies all round. I hope you all enjoy some of these artists which are basically the best of the singles I have received this week.
First up is Goodluck Jonathan whose second EP in a trilogy entitled This Is Our Way Out drops 22nd November on Something or Nothing. It has a slightly retro indie feel. I can understand why this five-piece from Brighton have been making a splash lately. There is certainly a radio-friendly sound buried under the crashing guitars.

Regular readers will know that I hold Welsh songsmith Pete Lawrie in the highest regard. His sound may not be en vogue with the movers and shakers, but since when did I care? His latest offering, In The End, is a four-track EP. Beyond the title track and the more soulful ‘Black and Blue’ lies a gem of a song in ‘Souvenir’. Sometimes songs just take my breath away, and this is just the most beautifully crafted ballad; fragile and delivered from the soul. Rounding off the EP is a great cover of ‘Motel Blues’. Dropping 8th November on Island, it’s without a doubt my must-buy record of the week.
Johnny Flynn has been buzzing around my radar for the last couple of years, and as much as I love the current folk scene I have maybe overlooked Johnny. Having said that, his current longplayer Been Listening has steadily grown on me. The third single to be released is a beautiful duet with Laura Marling entitled ‘The Water’. This drops 1st November on Transgressive records.
The wonderfully talented Lissie releases the third single from her stunning debut Catching A Tiger, ‘Everywhere I Go’. It is without a doubt one of the stand out tracks on the album. I’m not so sure this jazzed-up new version with Ellie Goulding on backing vocals works as well. Having said that, it’s a great song and well worth your cash. This ones on Columbia with a release date 14th November.
I was going to do this as one post, but I realise my pile is nearly twenty deep! So part 2 tomorrow?
